February is Black History Month @ Skyline College

Campus Events in February

Skyline College is excited to celebrate Black History Month 2023 and host a variety of events on and off campus (calendar attached and below)! Keep up to date with events by visiting the Black History Month website:

February 1, 12pm - 1pm - Black History Month Kick-off at College Hour – Play trivia and win great prizes sponsored by the SPWD division!

February 1, 1pm - 2pm - Brothers Achieving Milestones (BAM) Open House – Learn more about this community designed to support men of color at the college.

February 2, 3pm - 5pm – Movie Night: The Woman King – Movie & refreshments sponsored by ASSC


February 6, 3pm - 4pm – Dealing with Racial Stress with Dr. Tony Jackson – Learn about the history of racial trauma in the US and how to deal with it from a psychological perspective. Perfect for Psych majors!

February 7, 11am - 1pm – Black History Month Block Party and Vendor Fair – Purchase food, clothing and more from Black-owned Bay Area entrepreneurs! Live New Orleans style music by MJ’s Brass Boppers brought to you by ASSC and the Black Student Union

February 9, 3pm - 5pm – Movie Night: Black Panther I – Movie & refreshments sponsored by ASSC


February 12, 11am - 1pm – Black Panther Party Alumni Legacy Tour – A walking tour around historical sites of the Oakland Chapter of the Black Panther Party sponsored by the Equity Institute. To sign up, email today!

February 15 - Brothers Achieving Milestones (BAM) Black Professionals in Today’s Society – BAM hosts a panel of professionals representing different industries. BAM welcomes everyone to attend!

February 21, 3pm - 4:30pm – Structural Inequity in Healthcare Panel – Learn about the inequities in healthcare and how you can make a difference in the care people in your community receive.

February 22, Time TBD - Everybody’s Business: Supporting Academic Success of Black Students at Skyline College – Led by the Umoja Learning Community, this event engages participants in dialogue and a call to community action as it takes a village to ensure success.

TBD – We Were Hyphy Documentary – We Were Hyphy is a music documentary about Hyphy, a thumping Bay Area born subgenre of hip hop that extended beyond music. Join CIPHER for discussion and Q&A.


February 27, 4pm-6pm – BHM Presents: Mic Drop! Poetry SLAM!! – The Learning Commons is hosting a Poetry Slam and invite the College community to join us!

February 28, 3pm-5pm – Black Culture & History within the Barbering, Cosmetology & Esthetics Industries: Walk-Thru Exhibit – Join the BCE program in an event to educate as well as honor the late Carmen Richardson.

March 2, 11am - 1pm – Entrepreneur Career Conversation Spotlight: The Vegan Hood Chefs – Learn about the Vegan Hood Chefs duo, their path through creating their own business, food truck and supporting the Bayview/Hunter’s Point community. Brought to you by the Entrepreneurship program and SPWD.
