A literature review is a critical look at the available literature (usually scholarly articles and books/book chapters) related to your research question, usually articles and books about a similar/related subject or topic. The literature review is a summary and analysis of what has already been written about a subject, what is missing from the existing research and what you would explore to clarify or expand what has been written about. Literature reviews help to determine the focus of new and related research.
